MATCH REPORT: CAMBY START OUT IN DEFEAT

Cambuslang Rangers kicked off their league campaign this afternoon with a 3-2 defeat to newcomers St Cadoc's.

The season was off to a bad start with the visitors taking a 2-0 lead after just 8 minutes with goals from Miller and Moore. The opening 20 minutes was disappointing from the Lang and after slumping to a 2 goal deficit the side began to grow into the match.

Following the water break at a sun-kissed Somervell Park, Camby began to get a foothold in the game with chances falling for Scott Williamson and a few free kicks which John Gemmell failed to break the St Cadoc's wall with.

A chance for Gemmell at the end of the first 45 minutes was volleyed over the bar shortly before today’s referee blew for half-time with Cambuslang trailing by 2 goals to nil.

The second half was just seconds old before Scott Williamson replied by pegging one back for the hosts with a stunning solo run matched with an excellent shot past the onrushing St Cadoc's goalkeeper.

Cambuslang seemed to grow in confidence from that goal and began to create a spell of decent chances. On 66 minutes, Callum McLean attempted a right foot volley from 25 yards which was caught by St Cadoc's stopper, Nelson.

Shortly afterwards Nelson was once again troubled as some good footwork from Williamson forced a block from one of the men in front of the keeper. Williamson, who was in terrific form during pre-season continued with an excellent display today by attempting an acrobatic effort which went just wide of goal.

From the resulting goal kick St Cadoc's managed to break forward down their left and McKillen fired the visitors 3-1 up. The goal seemed to shoot Cambuslang Rangers in the arm however as after that it was the side from Somervell who were creating opportunities.

In the 80th minute Cambuslang managed to break forward down the left and after a terrific delivery John Gemmell's header appeared to cross the line and Gemmell went over to collect the ball in his arms for kick-off however the referee blew for a free kick for the visitors much to the frustration of the Cambuslang players and the relief of those in red.

The Lang pushed even further to bring themselves back into the game and in the 83rd minute new signing, Ryan Frances almost headed in a second but a decent save from Nelson prevented him.

Cambuslang did pull one back with a very good volley from Academy graduate, Jay Nelson as his right footed effort was put past the diving goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner to make the score 2-3 to the advantage of today's guests.

Unfortunately there was to be no late equaliser however, but after a long time without competitive action it was a very good game for the crowd which turned up to back their respective teams.
