Cambuslang Rangers took on Glasgow United this evening in the glorious sunshine over Greenfield Park in Shettleston.
It was the hosts who created the first real opportunity of the game with an effort which hit the side-netting as the game was just 3 minutes old.
The first Cambuslang chance came after 7 minutes as a good corner broke to several blue shirts before eventually falling to the feet of Frances but his effort was blocked on the line.
After 10 minutes the ball was crossed in from a corner by Jay Nelson towards the near post but Alan Reid couldn't manage to get his effort on target.
Shortly after, Nelson would be the one having the attempt at goal as some good play down the left allowed Nelson to hit a stunning shot at goal, managing to open the scoring and putting Cambuslang 1-0 up after 14 minutes.
Less than 2 minutes later it would be goal-scorer turning provider as some neat interlinking play from Nelson and Stewart opened up space for Stewart to hit one at goal with the Glasgow goalkeeper unable to get a touch to stop the ball entering his goal for 2-0.
The match started to settle after the Wee Gers’ early dominance as the referee called for a water break on 27 minutes, allowing the players to rehydrate after the blistering heat of today.
Almost immediately after the restart Cambuslang Rangers were three goals to the good after some top play from Williamson seen him bag his first of the evening.
Jay Nelson was on red-hot form heading into today’s game after scoring his first senior goal at the weekend and tonight he managed to better it as he scored his brace and put Cambuslang four up just 5 minutes before the end of the half.
There was time for a couple more chances before the break as an attempt from Williamson went narrowly wide followed by a corner falling to the feet of Stevenson but he failed to keep his volley down as the ball went for a goal kick before the referee blew his whistle for half-time
Just 2 minutes into the second half and Cambuslang were five goals in the ascendancy as Scott Williamson slotted past Gary Keenan for his second time of the evening.
A few more opportunities for Cambuslang to extend their advantage fell within the 50-60 minute mark but after the various changes made by the co-managers it would take a good bit of play from Glasgow United to peg one back on 75 minutes.
A few Gordon Dick free kicks failed to hit the target and Scott Williamson struck the post with a curling effort from the left side of the pitch.
The match would end, however, with 3 points added to the board and confidence running high throughout the side.
