GR8 LANG MARCH ON IN THE SCOTTISH JUNIOR CUP

Following a terrific midweek display against Newmains United, Cambuslang Rangers were in a buoyant mood as they headed into the Junior Cup First Round to meet Fauldhouse United at Somervell Park.

The match kicked off at a good pace as the hosts created the first opportunity of the afternoon as Gary Giffin's corner met the head of Ryan Frances who couldn't divert his effort on target in the 2nd minute.

Cambuslang continued to press for an early goal and in the 8th minute, the in-form forward, Scott Williamson fired a low cross towards Gordon Dick but it was turned wide for a second corner before it reached him.

Just a few minutes later the Fauldhouse goalkeeper would be tested for the first time in the game as Tony Stevenson fired a shot from outside the box only for it to be caught by the welcome gloves of the keeper.

In the 13th minute the Lang would open the scoring as Scott Williamson sprinted down the right flank before cutting inside and placing the ball into the net as he ran off in celebration with his teammates.

One would almost become two just five minutes later as Gordon Dick's shot was put just wide after some scintillating build-up play from Camby.

In the 22nd minute, Cambuslang Rangers would double their lead thanks to the head of Tony Stevenson who rose highest to nod home from a fine corner delivery.

The high-flying Cambuslang would have the chance to convert a third goal from the spot after Gary Giffin was brought down in the box with the referee pointing to the spot. John Gemmell would be the man to step up but his attempt from 12 yards was kept out by the post after 28 minutes.

Just three minutes later, however, the third goal did come as Williamson once again broke in behind the Fauldhouse defence and fired the Somervell side 3-0 up after 31 minutes.

Fauldhouse would respond with a goal themselves on 34 minutes after a decent strike beyond Andy Wilson.

Straight from kick off, Cambuslang found themselves instantly as Williamson found himself in space to run through at goal and claim his hat-trick to make it 4-1 heading into the break.

There was some bad news before the referee sounded the whistle as, midfielder, Jay Nelson had a gash at his knee and would be replaced at half time by Ben Richford.

The second half was seven-minutes-old when Williamson, once again, popped up on the scoresheet as he bagged his 4th of the match and Cambuslang's fifth.

In the 65th minute Gordon Dick's attempts would eventually merit a goal as he struck from range with a good effort beyond the helpless keeper to make it 6-1.

As the 75th minute went by, a Fauldhouse free kick in a dangerous position was seen dipping over the Cambuslang wall and off of Andy Wilson's right hand post.

Only five minutes later, the visitors were, again made to pay as Gordon Dick secured his second of the match with a fabulous curling effort into the top right corner off the left wing to make it 7-1.

Dick had a chance to make it a hat-trick from a free-kick but his attempt flew over the bar with five minutes remaining.

There was time for one more goal as Richford cut in off the left side to clinch his first senior goal and Cambuslang's eighth and final goal of the evening as the home side head into the second round of the competition.
