WILLIAMSON IN SEVENTH HEAVEN AS CAMBUSLANG FIRE 8 PAST NEWMAINS UNITED

Within the Scottish professional football setup a record was set earlier this season which nobody would have guessed would be matched in the 2021/22 campaign when Arthurlie's Gary Smith struck 7 goals past Lugar. Scott Williamson had different ideas however as the Lang took on Newmains United at Victoria Park.

It would be the hosts who would take the early advantage as Mark McQuade found himself free in the box to head the ball past Andy Wilson after just 9 minutes played.

Newmains’ lead would last just 5 minutes, however, as Cambuslang Rangers’ top scorer, Scott Williamson equalised placing his shot past the goalkeeper.

Williamson grabbed his & the Lang's second to turn the tide two minutes later with a similar effort to put Camby into the ascendancy after 16 minutes.

John Gemmell was close to doubling the league leaders’ advantage when his effort was lobbed over the 'keeper and dipped, only to be denied by the width of the crossbar.

In the 29th minute, the advantage was extended as Williamson secured his hat-trick to bring the score to 3-1 to the visiting side as he fired the ball low and hard beyond the diving Cammy Farquhar.

The score became 4-1 as an effort was deflected onto the top of the bar and dropped onto the head of Williamson who was just 5 yards out, happily claiming his fourth of the evening.

Before the break, John Gemmell managed to get onto the scoresheet following his previous unfortunate attempt as he struck in the Wee Gers’ fifth goal in the 41st minute.

After halftime, Williamson quickly made it 6-1 as he ran beyond the Newmains backline and slotted the ball past Farquhar once again.

Jay Nelson was denied by the Newmains stopper as his shot from outside the box was caught and quickly dispatched in the 48th minute.

Cambuslang kept up the pursuit and on 52 minutes Williamson made it a double hat-trick for himself and 7-1.

The hosts did grab another back after FitzpatrickFitzpatrick found space inside the box to volley the ball into the net to claim the home side's second goal of the evening in the 65th minute.

Five minutes later Williamson grabbed his seventh & Cambuslang's final goal of the night to make it 8-2 to the visiting Lang, keeping the boys in blue one point clear at the top of the league.
