MATCH REPORT: CAMBUSLANG BEAT THORNIEWOOD FOR FIVE
THORNIEWOOD VS CAMBUSLANG
WEDNESDAY 4TH AUGUST 2021
7:30PM KICK OFF
ROBERTSON PARK
WEST OF SCOTLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Cambuslang Rangers headed into this match in fine form following their weekend fixture but with Thorniewood’s decent start to the season as well as their recent results they would be in a buoyant mood which could prove to be a tricky test for the Lang.
The game commenced at a slow start as both sides gradually came into the game and the first real chance fell to Cambuslang as the ball fell to Williamson who's attempt to divert the ball on target was blocked wide by the defender and out for a corner.
After 25 minutes Cambuslang Rangers won another corner which was delivered in by Nelson and onto the head of Alan Reid who managed to aim a powerful header into the back of the Thorniewood goal to open the scoring for Camby.
After that goal the floodgates seemed to open as midfielder, Jay Nelson managed to double the Wee Gers' advantage with a powerful strike beyond the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Two became three in the 37th minute as Williamson converted his effort to add his name to the score sheet and bag his 5th of the season as he slotted beyond the helpless Thorniewood United stopper.
There was time for Gordon Dick to get in on the act before the break as he broke the Thorniewood defensive line and calmly stroked the ball home to put Cambuslang four up before half-time.
A largely uneventful second half in comparison followed as Scott Williamson found himself ruled offside a number of times from the official although in the 54th minute he did manage to lift the ball over the diving goalkeeper to double his tally for the match and add a fifth goal for the dominant Lang.
Williamson did have the ball in the net once more however again he was adjudged to have been in an offside position in the lead-up so the match would end with the score at Thorniewood United nil, Cambuslang Rangers five as the visitors added their fourth win of the season after five matches with Dalry at the weekend.
